Rep. DeBolt presents Thurston County Youth of the Year award to Mara Harris

Mara Harris, a senior at A.G. West Black Hills High School, received the Thurston County Boys and Girls Club “Youth of the Year” award for 2015. Rep. Richard DeBolt, a member of the board for the Thurston County Club, presented her with the award at a special event in Olympia March 24.
Mara has been a member of the Club for eight years, where she is a member of Keystone, 4-H, Junior Staff and the “Sunshine Committee.” In school, Mara has participated in ASB, golf, volleyball and theater. This is not the first time Mara has won “Youth of the Year” – she was honored in 7th grade with the award, too.
“I am impressed with Mara and all she has done and is working toward. She is definitely deserving of this recognition,” said DeBolt, R-Chehalis. “This event reminds us all that groups like the Boys and Girls Club and other nonprofits are what tie our communities together and effectively address poverty, incarceration and other social ills. It was great to be a part of this event.”
As part of the award, Mara receives a scholarship and will begin a one-year term representing the Boys and Girls Club at various community events and activities. She intends on pursuing a career in business and marketing with an education at South Puget Sound Community College.
