DeBolt named ranking Republican of House Capital Budget Committee
Rep. Richard DeBolt, R-Chehalis, has been named ranking Republican of the House Capital Budget Committee. The 20th District lawmaker replaces Rep. Judy Warnick, R-Moses Lake, who was selected caucus chair of the Washington House Republicans in late April.
DeBolt will be responsible for negotiating with the chair of the House Capital Budget Committee on a final capital budget. Referred to as the “bricks and mortar” budget, the capital budget provides funding and bonds for long-term infrastructure needs throughout the state, including schools, hospitals, prisons and other buildings. It also provides low-interest loans to local governments for critical community projects.
The capital budget is one of three state budgets, including the operating and transportation budgets. The 2013-15 capital budget, which passed with strong bipartisan support on the last day of the second special session, included $28.2 million for flood protection in the Chehalis River Basin.
