House Republican Leader Richard DeBolt’s statement on 12 House Democrats’ legal maneuver to eliminate voter-approved I-1053, make it easier to raise taxes

“At a time when so many families and small businesses are adjusting to economic realities and living within their means, several House Democrats feel that state government shouldn't have to. Time and time again, voters of all political persuasions have made it clear they want safeguards against government's appetite for tax increases.

“Initiative 1053 put Olympia on a diet and this is good for the long-term, financial health of our state. It also provides a level of certainty to current and prospective employers. My hope is that Initiative 1053 will continue to fight off job-killing tax increases and lead to state government reforms that will help get Washington working again.”
