North Thurston student pages for House Republican Leader
Jordan Nylander, a sophomore at North Thurston High School, recently spent a week serving as a page in the Washington House of Representatives. He was sponsored by House Republican Leader, Richard DeBolt, R-Chehalis.
Jordon is the son of Olympia residents James and Rebecca Nylander. He is a member of the North Thurston High School cross country team.
While serving as page, his responsibilities included delivering messages and documents to legislators and legislative assistants, committee meetings and House chambers. He also spent time in the legislative page school learning about state government.
Young men and women have come to Olympia to serve as pages for the Washington State Legislature since 1891. To become a page, students must be in good academic standing and obtain permission from their parents and school.
“The legislative page program is a great opportunity for students to experience firsthand how state laws are created,” said DeBolt. “It's always an honor for me to sponsor young men and women interested in learning more about the democratic process. Hopefully we will see them back in Olympia as legislative leaders down the road.”
