Rep. Richard DeBolt sponsors W.F. West student as House page

W.F. West student, Ava Meller, recently traveled to Olympia to serve as a page in the state House of Representatives. She was sponsored by 20th Legislative District Rep. Richard DeBolt.

“It was an honor to sponsor Ava as a House page. She did a fantastic job for our office,” said DeBolt, R-Chehalis. “This experience has a way of inspiring students to stay involved in government as adults. Perhaps Ava will return someday as a state legislator or other elected official. I wish her the best in all her future endeavors!”

In her spare time, Ava, a Chehalis resident, enjoys dancing at the Southwest Washington Dance Center. The 14-year old is the daughter of Peter and Shelley Meller.

As part of her page duties, Ava learned to navigate the many buildings on the Capitol campus while delivering messages and documents to legislators and staff. She also attended page school every day to understand the inner workings of the Legislature.

To become a page, applicants must have a legislative sponsor, be between the ages of 14 and 16, and obtain written permission from their parents and school. Pages earn $35 per day while serving in the program. For more information about the House Page Program go to To learn more about the Gina Bull Memorial Legislative Page Scholarship program go to
